Salem: Two unidentified persons have stolen a mobile phone, two sovereigns of gold chain and a wallet from a cinema actor near Suramangalam in Salem on Sunday night.
Kottachi, 40, from Iyappanthangal in Chennai, acted in comical roles in many Tamil movies. He came to shoot a movie named ‘Vayakkattu Mappillai’ at Perumanallur near Erode.
After shooting his scenes on Sunday, the actor reached Salem from Erode by a bus. He planned to leave Chennai in a private ‘Omni’ bus.
On his way to a travel agency to board the bus, a stranger, who introduced himself as the actor’s fan, offered to take him to the boarding point of the bus. Believing his words, Kottachi got into an auto with him. “The person asked to get into an auto to reach the boarding point,” Kottachi said.
The auto started moving towards Salem-Bengaluru national highway. When nearing Mamangam near Suramangalam, Kottachi become suspicious and tried to call his friend, Benjamin, residing in Salem. “Benjamin did not pick up the phone,” Kottachi said.
The actor said that the stranger suddenly grabbed his mobile phone and pushed him out of the auto. “The person also snatched the two sovereigns of gold chain and took my wallet from my pant pocket,” Kottachi added. Later, the person managed to flee from the spot with the auto driver.
The locals helped the actor to reach his friend’s house on Monday morning. Kottachi lodged a complaint with Suramangalam police, who launched a search for the accused. The stolen items are worth Rs 75,000.
