Russia is set to launch a Mayak satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, on Friday, July 14 in a project led by Moscow State Mechanical Engineering University.
The tiny satellite, roughly the size of a rugby ball, will be launched on a Soyuz 2.1v vehicle and will unfurl a giant pyramid-shaped solar reflector once in orbit. The satellite is expected to bounce the sun’s light back towards Earth becoming the brightest star in the sky and fourth-brightest object after the Sun, Moon and Venus.
