A judge ordered former Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his wife, Nadine Heredia, to be arrested in relation to a money laundering investigation at a public hearing in Lima, late Thursday.
Judge Richard Concepcion’s ruling was met with jeers from supporters at the two-day hearing, making it the second time the judge has sentenced the Peruvian ex-president spend time in jail.
The decision, which means the couple may spend 18 months in jail, comes after prosecutors argued that the pair could flee the country or meddle in the investigations as a means of evading justice.
